Safe with Christ, Like Chicks Under a Hen's Wings

Have you ever seen a hen gather her chicks under her wings to protect them from a storm? She spreads the feathers on her wings and holds them out like she’s offering to give her babies a big hug, and then she calls them, and they come running, and tuck themselves underneath her wings. They nestle into her feathers and stay safe and warm.
But a hen can’t go and grab those chicks and tuck them under her wings, she can only call. So the chicks that don’t listen, get wet and cold.
In Matthew 23:37, Jesus spoke to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, "...how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen gathers her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!"
It’s the same for us. Jesus Christ is there waiting, holding out his arms to comfort, bless and protect us, but we have to go to Him. If we don’t want to listen, that’s our choice, but the option is always there.
He never stops calling us, and His hand is always stretched out to us, and He never gives up on us, because He loves us.
And that’s today’s reason to smile!
